The Importance of Readability in Product Descriptions

When you are selling products it is important to have structure, proper grammar and fluent readability in your product descriptions otherwise you might not make many sales.

There are many items to consider in your product descriptions and if you are just copying and pasting them into your sales page, chances are they are poorly written. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you create sales pages for your products.

Complete Sentences

Construct your sales copy in complete sentences that add flair and descriptive language. For example, when selling a Bluetooth speaker, you might add “This Bluetooth speaker will blow your party guests away with its crisp, clear sound, and autoplay capability.”

Correct Grammar

Always strive to use correct grammar. If you are not a very strong writer, use free tools like Grammarly, 5MinuteEnglish.com, or LousyWriter.com to help you with sentence structure.

If you don’t have the time, you can always hire someone like me to ghostwrite your sales copy for you.

Improve Engagement and Sales

Your main goal is to have sales and the readability of your copy will either create engagement with your visitor which may lead to a sale or a share on social media or your product page may simply become a bounce page that no one reads past the first view lines.

It is important to attract your visitors and get them interested in your product. Share with them the benefits and the features of the product and explain why they need your product. Here are some basic examples of items to add to your sales pages.

  • How will the product save them time?
  • Is the product made to last? How so?
  • Will the product solve a problem for them? Explain how.

Improve Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Well written product descriptions will improve your SEO and your search engine rankings which leads to more traffic and of course hopefully more sales. You may only have a few seconds to grab the attention of your visitor and if you don’t make those seconds count, they are off your page and on to another site.

Put the most important product information first. How does the product solve a problem for your customer? Most people only lightly skim what they read online and if you use fluff and unnecessary wording in the first few sentences of your copy, they will lose interest and leave your site.
